When the COVID-19 pandemic suddenly emerged in 2019, the entire world was caught off guard. To track the pandemic's developments in real-time and stay updated, we needed to complete and launch the project within 5 days.
Interaction: Using colors to indicate the level of infected people. By clicking on each province or country, users can view the pandemic data.
Map: D3.js is used to manipulate SVG elements.
Data: Using CSV to collect the data.
My Role as a Independent Interaction Designer and Frontend Developer:
1. Working closely with the designer and researcher at The Initium to understand the requirements;
2. Turning the requirements into project planning and technical solutions;
3. Completing the project together with my friend Felix.
The Biggest Challenges
1. The project started during Chinese New Year in 2020;
2. Everyone needed to work online to collaborate;
3. We needed to work very effectively to launch the project;
4. Having never done a map project before, it was quite challenging.
